It is known that field trials using Imidacloprid have already taken place at Grieg Seafood (which was recently bought by Norwegian-owned Scottish Sea Farms):

Dear Mr. Staniford,

We hope this email finds you well, and we apologize again for the delay.

Benchmark’s sea lice treatment has been thoroughly reviewed and approved by both Norwegian and European regulators. As a part of the rigorous approval process, we participated in field trials on some of our farms in Norway. All results have been submitted to the Authorities, but they are subject to an NDA, so unfortunately we are unable to respond to your specific requests. We suggest you contact Benchmark directly for further information.

Combating sea lice is one of the biggest challenges that our industry must solve, and we are striving to control sea lice through preventative measures.  Benchmark’s treatments are carried out in a closed contained environment then the CleanTreat system purifies the treatment water before it is released back into the ocean.  We believe this is a more sustainable treatment method than other medical treatments.

Med vennlig hilsen / Kind regards,

May Hansen

Executive administrative secretary
