“We Won the Battle”: Campaigners Celebrate as ‘Organic’ Salmon Farm Refused Planning Permission on Skye!

'Organic' Sea Harvest's plans for expansion off the Isle of Skye have been blown out of the water after the Scottish Government dismissed their appeal and refused planning permission for a new salmon farm at Balmaqueen.

The public backlash against the scam that is 'organic' salmon farming was featured in The Mail on Sunday in July 2021:

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday in July 2021 I commented (as Director of Scottish Salmon Watch):

"The SNP's lobbying on behalf of disease-ridden salmon farms is toxic politics at its very worst.  Organic Sea Harvest is a sham, scam and consumer con.  So-called 'organic' salmon farming is an oxymoron and a figment of the marketing men's toxic imagination.  Shame on the Soil Association for allowing the lobster-killing chemical Deltamethrin to be used on organic salmon farms.  Mass mortalities and lice infestations are already plaguing OSH's 'organic' operations and further expansion will only exacerbate the problem. 'Organic' Sea Harvest is merely a front for Dutch, Canadian and Norwegian investors who want to exploit Scotland's green and clean image.  Consumers should boycott 'organic' salmon embalmed in toxic chemicals"

Back in January 2020, Scottish Salmon Watch reported on the controversy surrounding the expansion by 'Organic' Sea Harvest (controlled by Villa Seafood via Norway's Villa Seafood Group & 2400074 Ontario IncCanadian company DOM International owned by Domenic Porporo/Proporo).

In November 2020, Scottish Salmon Watch revealed that 'Organic' Sea Harvest was owned by investors in the Netherlands, Canada and Norway.

In March 2021, I Tweeted:

In May 2021, Villa Seafood (the owners of Organic Sea Harvest) changed their name to Organic Sea Harvest Holdings Ltd in a filing with Companies House – the company is listed as being co-owned by Villa Seafood in Norway, DOM in Canada and Visscher Seafood in the Netherlands (all with over 25% but less than 50% shareholdings).

Scottish Salmon Watch reported in June 2021:

'Organic' Sea Harvest has been desperately trying for royal approval for their toxic and disease-ridden product.

When Prince Charles and Camilla visited Skye last month they were presented with 'organic' salmon:

It beggars belief that salmon doused in toxic chemicals and ridden with infectious diseases can be marketed as 'organic' and certified by the Soil Association

In March 2020, Dutch TV exposed the scam that is "organic" salmon:

Back in 2006, BBC Newsnight exposed the toxic politics of the Soil Association's certification of farmed salmon as 'organic'

BBC Newsnight 2006 #1

"Salmon farming in cages has nothing at all to do with organic principles," said Lawrence Woodward, former chairman of the Soil Association's standards committee.  "It is very regrettable that the Soil Association has gone down this line of trying to certify something that is so distant from the principles."
