Last weekend (4 August) BBC's Countryfile broadcast a feature on the impact of Acoustic Deterrent Devices (ADDs) used by salmon farms on cetaceans: Watch online via BBC iPlayer (starts at 8 minutes 9 seconds)
The BBC Countryfile show features tourist operator David Ainsley who is calling for a ban on ADDs due to impacts on cetaceans (read David's submission to the Scottish Parliament and complaint to the European Commission online here):
The Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation and Marine Scotland both claim that the science is not clear on the issue.
However, scientific research published by the Scottish Association of Marine Science and the Scottish Aquaculture Research Forum (and backed by the Scottish Government's nature adviser Scottish Natural Heritage) is crystal clear in their conclusions of impacts of ADDs on cetaceans.
