New Data Reveals Shocking Scale of Scottish Salmon’s Mort Mountain

 

 

 

New data on mass mortalities published by the Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate earlier this month (12 October 2020) highlights problems with disease-ridden Scottish salmon.

The new mass mortality data details 65 'Mortality Event Reports' up to the end of August 2020:

During the month of August 2020 alone a staggering 996,329 farmed salmon were reported as dying due to Pancreas Disease, Anaemia, Cardiomyopathy Syndrome, Gill health, complex gill disease, post treatment mortality, post-physical delicing, Sea lice (Caligus) grazing damage, treatment losses and other issues.   Here's the top 10 worst 'Mortality Events' (7 incidents did not provide numbers):

Scottish Salmon Watch filmed mass mortalities at Dunvegan pier (where Grieg's mortalities from Corlarach and Gob na Hoe in Loch Dunvegan are unloaded) in September and July 2020.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cases where number of mortalities were not provided included the following incidents involving Scottish Sea Farms in Shetland:
