Result – Applecross Smokehouse deletes “sustainable fisheries” claim following complaint!

 

 

Following yesterday's blog, video, Tweet and Facebook post complaining about misleading marketing of their farmed salmon, Applecross Smokehouse have altered the claims on their web-site.  The web-page for Smoked Salmon now reads:

In April 2021, Scottish Salmon Watch also filed a complaint with Trading Standards against Belhaven Smokehouse in East Lothian for misleading marketing and deceptive advertising regarding their 'quality salmon' sourced "from the wild waters of Shetland"

 

 

 

 

 

Belhaven Smokehouse immediately corrected their web-site.

 

 

 

 

In April 2019, salmon farming company Loch Duart was forced to drop the word 'Sustainable' from their marketing materials after a ruling from the Advertising Standards Authority.

In March 2021, a class action lawsuit in the United States has resulted in salmon farming giant Mowi (Scotland's largest salmon farming company) not being permitted to use the phrase "sustainably sourced" in their marketing.
