Mortality data slipped out earlier this month by the Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate reveals that 'Organic' Sea Harvest – which operates two RSPCA Assured salmon farms off North East Skye – is dead in the water with over half a million mass mortalities already reported in 2023 including 325,551 dead fish in a single week at a horrific death rate of 72.5%!
Dutch/Canadian/Norwegian-owned 'Organic' Sea Harvest is certified as 'organic' by the Soil Association, as 'welfare friendly' via RSPCA Assured and shamelessly markets itself as "farmed in the wild":
Salmon Scotland's mortality data – published online monthly – details a 47.9% mortality rate at Organic Sea Harvest's Culnacnoc salmon farm for December 2022:
Organic Sea Harvest's Invertote salmon farm was reported to the Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate as suffering from seal predation – with a seal entering the net in bad weather – in January 2023 leading to 9,278 morts (now that's one voracious seal!):
Organic Sea Harvest's Invertote salmon farm has also suffered mass mortalties due to Amoebic Gill Disease and Sea Lice infestation (the latter leading to toxic chemical treatments with Deltamethrin – shown by peer-reviewed science to kill shellfish):
'Organic' Sea Harvest's gill problems started to rear their ugly heads in September 2022 with 10.7% mortality reported by Salmon Scotland at Invertote:
Then in October 2022 the mortality at Invertote had risen to 12.8%:
Then in November 2022 gill problems hit Culnacnoc salmon farm with 14% mortality:
$camon $cotland reported in October 2022:
The Scottish Fish Farm Production Survey 2021 (published earlier today – 27 October 2022 – by the Scottish Government) exposes the growing scam of 'organic' farmed salmon in Scotland – with 'organic' salmon farming production more quadrupling over the last decade from 4,597 tonnes in 2012 to 18,285 tonnes in 2021:
"So-called 'organic' salmon is a sham, scam and a consumer con," said Don Staniford, Director of $camon $cotland. "Shame on the Soil Association for greenwashing pharmed salmon as environmentally friendly. Mowi, Cooke Aquaculture and Organic Sea Harvest – the three salmon farming companies certified as 'organic' in Scotland – are a world removed from 'organic' farming. Organic salmon farming is an oxymoron."
