21% Mortality at Mowi’s ASC-Certified & RSPCA Assured Marulaig Bay & Rum in ONE WEEK!!!

 

 

 

 

Mortality data published earlier this month by Mowi makes for grim reading – with reports of mass mortalities at Marulaig Bay and Stulaigh (both certified as "farmed responsibly" via the Aquaculture Stewardship and accredited as "responsibly sourced" via RSPCA Assured) for the week ending 25 September with 21.28% and 12.49% mortality in ONE week!

Data published for the week ending 18 September 2022 reveals further mass mortalities at ASC-certified and RSPCA Assured Muck and Stulaigh salmon farms with 15.5% and 19.5% mortality in ONE week!

Data published online by the ASC reveals that there are 27 salmon farms already certified in Scotland – 25 of which are operated by Mowi – with 14 salmon farms currently being audited:

In view of the ongoing mass mortalities at ASC-certified salmon farms (see below for an update and online here), $camon $cotland demands that ASC-certification is immediately withdrawn from Mowi's Marulaig Bay, Stulaigh, Rum and Muck salmon farms (sites recently reporting mortality rates in excess of 15% in ONE WEEK due to 'Gill Infections').  Marketing claims by the ASC that Scottish salmon is "farmed responsibly" are dead in the water along with millions of dead Scottish salmon each year.  Shame on the ASC, RSPCA Assured and supermarkets such as Sainsburys and Tesco for greenwashing welfare abuse and unnecessary suffering on Scottish salmon farms as "responsibly sourced".  ASC-certification of Scottish salmon is a sham, scam and a consumer con.
