“Norwegian giant Mowi operates in wee bonnie Scotland as if they are above the law,” said Don Staniford, Director of $camon $cotland. “Mowi has shamefully – and fatally – ignored health and safety laws, biomass and lice limits, welfare legislation, reporting of seals killed and now it has been caught jumping the gun in stocking broodstock without authorisation. How many more cases of Mowi – and other salmon farming companies – riding roughshod over regulations are there lurking in the virus-laden waters? This case is surely the tip of a Titanic-sized iceberg.”

“Salmon farms across Scotland are slipping through the assessment net,” continued Staniford who is the subject of a SLAPP by Mowi. “Instead of turning a blind eye to violations and breaches of conditions, the Scottish Government should close the net on Mowi’s disease-ridden operations. Salmon farming companies found breaching authorisation conditions and violating the terms of their operating licence should be fined and have their leases rescinded rather than being rewarded with government grants and the fast-tracking of applications. It’s time to close down this lousy industry and rip out the hundreds of salmon cages littering the Highlands and Islands. Mowi has spread like malignant cancer on the coast of Scotland.”
