Based upon information published on 9 January 2023 by the Scottish Government's Fish Health Inspectorate (data up to the end of November 2022), here's the most deadly sea cage salmon farms in Scotland during 2022 – plagued by disease problems such as Rickettsia, Heart & Skeletal Muscle Inflammation, Amoebic Gill Disease, Salmon Gill Poxvirus, Pancreas Disease, Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis, Furunculosis, Piscine Reovirus, Vibrio and Sea Lice:

Scottish salmon's 2022 league of shame is headed by RSPCA Assured Bakkafrost in East Tarbert Bay off the Isle of Gigha with a staggering 781,352 dead fish killed via 17 'Mortality Event Reports' which cited lice infestation, Piscine Reovirus, Amoebic Gill Disease, physical damage, Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis, Vibrio, Aeromonas (Furunculosis) and Rickettsia:

During 2022, RSPCA Assured Scottish Sea Farms (exclusive supplier to M&S) reported 690,211 dead fish in Loch Nevis – audited by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council in December 2022 – via 22 'Mortality Event Reports' with Gill Health (Complex Gill Diseases) and Environment (jellyfish bloom and zooplankton insult) cited by the Fish Health Inspectorate as causes of mortality:

RSPCA Assured Mowi features prominently in Scottish salmon's 2022 'League of Death' – with 335,921 dead fish reported at Seaforth salmon farm on the Isle of Lewis via 13 'Mortality Event Reports' and 334,998 dead fish at Stulaigh salmon farm in South Uist via 7 'Mortality Event Reports':

Mowi's Seaforth salmon farm was not awarded ASC certification during 2022 ("decision by certificate holder to voluntarily cancel") and Mowi's Stulaigh salmon farm was awarded ASC certification in June 2022.

Other ASC-certified and RSPCA Assured Mowi salmon farms reporting irresponsible levels of mortalities include Marulaig Bay with 185,254 dead fish via 6 'Mortality Event Reports'; Muck with 182,214 dead fish via 6 'Mortality Event Reports' and Ardintoul with 227,610 dead fish via 10 'Mortality Event Reports':

RSPCA Assured Loch Duart is another company suffering from mass mortalities during 2022 with 249,640 dead fish reported in Loch Carnan via 14 'Mortality Event Reports' and 132,184 dead fish reported in Loch Laxford via 9 'Mortality Event Reports'.
