Bonnie the Seal is being used to promote COP26 but many delegates in Glasgow will not realise the bloody history of seal slaughter in Scotland.
#COP26 volunteers have started collecting their uniforms ahead of the Climate Summit starting 🌍
Bonnie the Seal was also on hand to collect her special COP26 outfit, which she’ll wear when she visits volunteers across the city.

Official Scottish Government data – forced out via Freedom of Information – reveals that over 1,000 seals have been killed by salmon farms across Scotland with trigger-happy Scottish Sea Farms, Mowi, The Scottish Salmon Company, Grieg Seafood and Loch Duart leading the slaughter.

"Her role during COP26 is to help explain climate change to children and engage our 1,000 volunteers," said a Glasgow City Council spokesperson in The Sun (26 October 2021). "As is tradition, mascots often embody local customs and traits of a host city. Scotland is home to at least 36% of the total harbour seal population, with Bonnie swimming up, all the way from Argyll, up the Clyde to once more welcome people to the exciting city of Glasgow."
What Glasgow City Council fail to mention is how seals have been tortured and massacred by salmon farms – with illegal killing still suspected following the ban on seal killing in February 2021. Scottish Salmon Watch reported in March 2021:

In July 2021, salmon farmers claimed that seals like Bonnie were "spooking" farmed salmon so must be shot!
